FLORA

  Each altitude has its unique flora. Typical Mediterranean bushes cover the hills which gently slope down towards the coastline, corbezzoli with their red and orange fruits and myrtle trees adorned by delicate white flowers add splashes of colour. In between, olive groves are cultivated climbing the hills up to 450m.

  Here one can easily spot cork trees, the strange bark of which is cut to provide the primary material for bottles stoppers, corks.

  On the slopes that rise up steeply one enters the realm of chestnuts, which form thick forests on the high peaks of Sassoforte and Monte Alto. Trees provide the higher vineyards with a natural protection from strong winds.
